Larian Studios Reveal a Latest Divinity, Calling it Their Biggest RPG to Date

The buzz about this year's gaming ceremony reached a fever pitch, notably after host Geoff Keighley posted a puzzling image of a desert monolith. The question has been revealed. Larian Studios is developing a completely new Divinity game.

Announced as Divinity, the game was debuted with a bold trailer that included intense imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the literal unleashing of hell.

Moving Beyond Original Sin

For those expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian stated ahead of time that a third Original Sin game to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not on the cards right now.

Nevertheless, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This phrasing hints that the team could be building a real-time experience instead of another tactical title. For now, we can only guess, as only a teaser video is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is widely praised and it's fair to claim it sparked the modern wave of deep computer role-playing games. These games are known for detailed worlds, branching plots, and flexible progression—qualities that subsequently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its setting is familiar fare, what makes Divinity apart is the immense freedom given to the player.

In contrast to modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is full of unique possibilities only possible if you're playing as a particular class or origin with a personal story.

The series is also notoriously permissive, enabling players to find creative solutions both in story and combat. Nearly every quest can be completed in multiple ways, often in surprising fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you heeded something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could bypass a challenge by using the world itself in a inventive way.

A New Chapter Begins

It is precisely these elements that have cemented the series to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games ever made. Now, the RPG community can look forward to another adventure in this groundbreaking franchise.
